Air New Zealand Introduces Skynest for Economy Passengers

Air New Zealand has announced that its groundbreaking “Skynest” sleep pods for Economy class passengers will be available for booking starting May 18, 2026. The new concept will be introduced on the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which are set to enter service from November 2026.

Designed to enhance passenger comfort on ultra long-haul flights to and from New Zealand, Skynest consists of six lie-flat sleeping pods located between the Economy and Premium Economy cabins. Arranged in a bunk-style layout, these pods allow passengers to stretch out, rest, and sleep during the flight.

Passengers traveling in Economy or Premium Economy will be able to purchase 4-hour Skynest sessions for an additional fee during the flight. These sessions are designed around natural sleep cycles, with two sessions initially planned to be available on each flight.
